The partners we work with to source our treasured Amazonian ingredients work toward the preservation of the standing forest and protection and sustainable use of one of our greatest natural resources.

The Best Body Butters from the Brazilian Rainforest

In this post we’re helping you to dive into the depths of the rainforest and explore the best body butters from the Brazilian rainforest.

The Amazon Rainforest is one of the most important eco-systems in the world and its rich flora and fauna have provided medicine and food for centuries. More recently we’ve become increasingly aware of how important rainforest biomes are to climate control and that their rich biodiversity sustains life across the world.

The Amazon rainforest is home to some of the world’s most effective health and beauty ingredients. With a host of anti-aging and skin firming benefits, the oils and butters that come from the rainforest are packed with essential fatty acids and vitamins. Not only are these ingredients good for your skin but because they are not conventionally farmed and are sustainably wild harvested, they help support the rainforest too.

Glorious & Gorgeous Ucuuba Butter

Ucuuba Butter is one of the rainforests unsung beauties. The butter is made from the cold pressed oils from the seeds of the Ucuuba tree. In the regional language of Tupi, Ucuuba literally translates as ‘Butter Tree’ but it’s also known as baboon wood. Its is found throughout South and Central America and is used for its medicinal qualities by local indigenous communities.

The plant has small green fruits that have a bright red seed, these seeds are cold pressed to produce a vitamin rich oil. The butter is a wonderful skin and haircare product providing deep moisture and nourishment. It’s rich in Lauric, Myristic and Palmitic acids and provides both anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities.

Restorative Murumuru Butter

Murumuru has become a popular alternative to Cocoa and Sheanut butter because of its incredibly nutritious benefits for skin and hair. The butter itself is made from the rich white/yellow fat that comes from the seeds of the Murumuru tree. The butter has a melting point of around 30° which means that it melts with ease on contact with the skin.

Murumuru butter is filled with Vitamin A which helps to restore the skin’s protective barrier and repair its elasticity to prevent aging. It’s also rich in Oleic acid and unlike Cocoa or coconut butter doesn’t clog pores. Not only is Murumuru great for your skin but it also nourishes roots and promotes shiny, strengthened follicles when applied to hair.

Rejuvenating Tucuma Butter

The Tucuma plant is indigenous to the north region of the Brazilian Amazon and is a spiny palm tree with small bright orange acorn shaped fruits.  Each fruit contains a large nut that can be cold pressed to create a wonderfully rich oil.  Containing a balance of Omegas 3, 6 and 9 it deeply moisturizes skin and hair without leaving you with a greasy feeling.

Super soothing Tucuma Butter is often used to treat dry and frizzy hair because it locks out humidity and smooths strands. Its high beta carotene content also helps to retain scalp moisture to promote growth and length retention. Although it can be used on all hair types rejuvenating Tucuma Butter can work wonders for tight coils and afro hair.

Supporting Rainforest Biodiversity

We love these beautiful Brazillian butters because they help your hair and skin to glow but also because they’re wild harvested. Rather than intense farming these indigenous trees grow organically in the rainforest as part of its rich ecology. This means that the nuts from each tree are handpicked from the ground around the tree, where they naturally fall. They are wild harvested by local communities who sell any butters they don’t use, and the proceeds go to supporting the surrounding economy.
