George Wade raises over £14,000 for UK charities in 120km run
This October O&3 have been incredibly proud to support George Wade’s Swinnerton Run which has raised a staggering £14,220 for UK charities.
George, who is O&3 Founder Eleanor Wade’s husband, ran 120km (74 miles) on the 1st October to raise funds for our partner charity Pendragon Community Centre and Dougie Mac hospice care in Staffordshire. He ran from Stoke to Worcester in a 14 hours and 26 minutes.
90 years ago George’s great grandfather Frank Swinnerton made a bet in his local pub that he couldn’t walk from Stoke-on-Trent to Worcester. To prove his friends wrong and with the bet he completed the run in 18.5 hours. It was a considerable feat considering he did it in golf shoes with the nails taken out.
George decided to complete this remarkable feat again to celebrate his great-grandfather’s achievement and to raise funds for charities that are close to his heart.
On Saturday 1st October 2022, George set off from the Stoke City stadium and followed the Trent and the Mersey canal to Stafford, on to Wolverhampton and eventually arriving in Worcester an incredible 74 miles later.
He was supported on the journey by an incredible team of family and friends cheering him on, some of whom ran alongside him to keep spirits and energy up. 14 hours later he completed the race having raised a fantastic £14,2200 on Just Giving.
George chose to raise funds for two incredibly valuable charities. The first is Dougie Mac which provides free of charge hospice care for over 3500 local people with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding area. The second is our very own charity partner, the Pendragon Community Trust which provides a multi-sensory centre for adults and children with additional needs and their families in North Yorkshire.
