Wellbeing in the workplace: Prioritising Employee Mental Health

In today’s fast-paced and demanding work environment, it is essential for companies to prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of their employees.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy over $1 trillion per year in lost productivity

The UK Health and Safety Executive found that work-related stress, depression, and anxiety accounted for 44% of work-related ill health cases in Great Britain

A survey conducted by the American Psychological Association revealed that nearly half of employees reported chronic work stress, affecting their mental health and job performance

By acknowledging these statistics, we’re taking a proactive stance in combatting the negative impact of mental health challenges on employees and has already implemented the following wellness programmes.

Mental Health First Aiders

At O&3 we understand mental health issues can affect anyone, at any time. To ensure employees have the necessary support, we have trained a team of Mental Health First Aiders. These individuals are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide initial assistance to colleagues experiencing mental health challenges by creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where employees feel comfortable discussing their concerns.

This proactive approach helps identify issues early on, allowing for timely interventions and support. Moreover, Mental Health First Aiders contribute to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, fostering a culture of openness and acceptance within O&3.

Wellbeing WhatsApp Group

This group offers instant support and connection to all our employees. In the Wellbeing WhatsApp group employees can find instant support and connect with their peers. This platform encourages open conversations about mental health, allowing individuals to seek advice, share experiences, or simply find solace in knowing they are not alone. The group also provides a space for the company to share helpful resources and tips for maintaining mental wellbeing.

Wellbeing Monthly

At O&3, we have recognised the importance of continuously raising awareness about mental health and providing employees with relevant information. To achieve this, the company sends out monthly communications to address common mental health issues, share coping strategies, and provide access to additional resources. By actively engaging with employees on these topics, we are demonstrating our commitment to nurturing a mentally healthy workplace.

Weekly fitness

Moving your body is one of the most effective ways to improve mental health. At O&3 we run a weekly fitness class offering all employees an opportunity to engage in invigorating exercise sessions completely free of charge. Led by qualified Personal Trainers, these classes cater to various fitness levels and preferences, ensuring everyone can participate and reap the rewards.

Our commitment to employee wellbeing sets an inspiring example both internally and externally. By investing in Mental Health First Aiders, providing a supportive Wellbeing WhatsApp group, and fostering open communication through monthly mental health communications, O&3 is creating a positive work environment that prioritises employees.
